The sights and sounds of the 1980s and 90s will take centre stage at Central Park Stadium in Sittingbourne on Saturday night to coincide with the 70th running of the Kent Silver Salver.
First held in 1933, the Arena Racing Company Kent Silver Salver is UK greyhound racing’s richest sprint prize and will be contested by six of the fastest canine athletes with winning connections scooping a £12,500 first prize.
To mark the occasion, the Church Road venue will be throwing it back to the glory days of the 80s and 90s and hold its own themed disco inside the stadium’s main complex once racing has finished.
It will cap off the venue’s third major race night of the year with challengers for this year’s Kent Silver Salver crown including Droopys Standard, Killuran Bella, Romeo Crusade, Magical Bluebear, Guzzler and My Lennie.
Hayley Huntley, general manager of Central Park Stadium, predicts a strong turnout for one of Central Park’s premier race nights.
“The Silver Salver is the jewel in the crown of UK sprint racing – it’s one all trainers want to win,” said Hayley. “We’ve seen some phenomenal performances during the qualifying rounds, and now the stage is set for Saturday’s grand final.
“Our switch back to Saturday night racing this year has been well supported by racegoers and locals in search of a fun, family friendly, night out.
“If you’re yet to experience live greyhound racing, Saturday will combine a great mix of high-quality action on track and guaranteed fun afterwards with our 80s and 90s themed night.”
The Silver Salver follows on from Central Park’s two other Category One fixtures already held this year – the Cesarewitch won by Garfiney Blaze and Kent Plate which Queen Joni scooped for local trainer Elizabeth McNair.
Hayley added: “We’re reaping the benefits of our £500,000 investment into the track’s running surface last year, which was a huge success.
“Our new drainage infrastructure and running surface has encouraged some of the country’s biggest trainers to enter their greyhounds which has resulted in some competitive top-level racing and the Silver Salver is no exception.”
Admission for the 2024 Arena Racing Company Kent Silver Salver starts at £10 which includes entry to the track’s 80s/90s party afterwards. Tickets can be booked online in advance or general admission can be purchased on the gate when doors open at 5.30pm.
The first of 12 races on the night will begin at 6.37pm. Trackside packages and restaurant bookings are available to make by clicking here.
